Below are some frequently asked questions. If you do not see your question here, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Appointments are great and in the case of custom work, probably important, but not necessarily required. I am happy to have you drop off your quilt top with a note and your phone number and I can call you to discuss it.
You may bring your own and I'll see if it will work with my machine. Longarm sewing machines require strong thread that can run through the needle at incredible speeds. My favorite threads are from Superior Threads and include King Tut, So-Fine, Rainbows and Bottom Line for bobbin thread. These are polyester threads and are excellent for this purpose. I have recently added a wonderful thread called OMNI that is much more cost effective. I do not charge anything for using this thread, however I have limited colors while I build my inventory of these.
At this time, 4-6 weeks
Thread is the main ingredient in quilting. Bobbins hold between 50 & 100 yards of thread and your quilt will have a minimum of 100 yards of thread, counting top and bobbin. This is part of the cost of goods and needs to be accounted for and is part of the finished product. Think of it like parts in a car repair. Tax is charged on thread.
Quilters charge a number of different ways. By the square inch, square yard, by the bobbin, by the job, and by the hour. At this time, I feel the fairest way to charge is by the hour, being very careful to keep exact track of time with a stopwatch.
I do not charge for any time spent in correcting mistakes, or if I truly think something should not have taken as long as it did (I should have done something more efficiently...)
Allover pantographs take less time, are less artistic and take much less time.
